With some 250 junior doctors on strike since Sunday afternoon, following a clash with 17 special task force police personnel, their treatment could not be taken up straightaway.

Hospital superintendent Dr Lakhindra said initially that the patients would be referred to Nalanda Medical College Hospital, some 15 kms away, on the other side of the town.

Lakhindra later said, in view of the strike, he had urgently requested the deputation of 50 doctors from the government.

No attempt was made to prepare rooms or pool in emergency medicines at the hospital by the administration and the situation was chaotic.

The Sonepur hospital of the East Central Railway were not equipped to take charge of the situation, lacking full-fledged operation theatres and personnel.

Many of the patients were released after first aid and taken to PMCH on 10 ambulances.

The junior doctors' association is yet to react to the situation or to call off the strike.

It had issued a call for strike after a medico happened to graze an STF jawan's foot with his motorcycle and was beaten up.

Later, the junior doctors beat up the 17 STF personnel and went on a flash strike. The administration has not been able to end the strike either.
