Police said the statue of former Prime Minister, which was in the front of Nizampet gram panchayat office in Qutbullapur mandal, was found disfigured.

The local Congress leaders lodged a complaint with the police, alleging vested interests, unable to bear the victory of Congress candidate in gram panchayat elections, had indulged in this dastardly act.

A case had been instituted and an investigation was, underway, police added.
