The toll in Wednesday's bus accident in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 17, with one more person succumbing to his injuries in a hospital in Jammu, official sources said on Sunday.

MA Akhter, who was seriously injured in the bus accident on August 23, died at the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu on Saturday, they said, adding his body was handed over to his family for last rites after the autopsy.

Sixteen people were killed and 35 others injured, nine of them seriously, when the overloaded passenger bus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge at Sain Ganji Ziarat in Rajouri district.
