Uproar over the Indo-US nuclear deal paralysed proceedings in Rajya Sabha which was adjourned for the day on Monday after four interruptions.

Heated exhanges were witnessed between Congress and NDA members over some remarks by Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh.

The BJP leader took the floor after NDA's demand for discussion on the nuclear deal under Rule 168, which entails voting, was rejected by Chairman Hamid Ansari.

The trouble began when Singh in his submission said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had reportedly stated that those opposing the deal were "traitors".

Taking exception to this, Congress members were up in arms labelleing the remark as an "allegation" and demanded its expunction.

They termed the remark as unparliamentary.

As BJP members trooped into the well, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan adjourned the House before lunch and again briefly after lunch.
