The session's court had, earlier this month, convicted Kadam and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Kadam had been asked to furnish a bail amount of Rs 50,000 by the high court.

On July 11, 1997, a mob of Dalits had gone on rampage protesting desecration of a statue of Dr Ambedkar at Ramabai Nagar in suburban Govandi.

Kadam had ordered the platoon to open indiscriminate firing at the mob.

Ten people died in the incident and several others were injured.
