A NOTORIOUS criminal of Bihar and Area Commander of banned ?Ranvir Sena? was shot dead by cops during an encounter in Dafi area under the Lanka police station on Saturday. An accomplice of the slain criminal managed to escape. The deceased was identified as Jitendra Ojha, resident of Bhojpur district in Bihar. He was wanted in mass murder of 22 people in Bhojpur district of Bihar in the year 1996.

The deceased was identified as Jitendra Ojha, resident of Bhojpur district in Bihar. He was wanted in mass murder of 22 people in Bhojpur district of Bihar in the year 1996. Police have recovered a foreign made pistol of . 9 mm, 10 live, six empty cartridges and a motorcycle from the scene.
Briefing mediapersons about the encounter, SSP Ashutosh Pandey said that acting on a tip off that two hardcore criminals of Bihar were coming to the city with the motto of killing a candidate of civic body election, cops of Lanka police station led by SO Manoj Pant started checking suspected vehicles and persons in the area.
The cops spotted two men on a bike coming from the side of Ramnagar to Dafi area in the morning. When signalled to stop, the miscreants turned the bike and fled towards the direction of Ashok Puram colony. Cops also chased them.
Meanwhile, the pillion rider opened fire on the chasing police team. The cops in defence also opened fire on the miscreants. The pillion rider was hot ny a bullet and fell from the bike along with his accomplice. However, the accomplice promptly stood up and fled the scene before cops could nab him.
The SSP added, the deceased identified as Jitendra Ojha, was involved in the mass murder of around 22 persons by the Ranvir Sena in Bhojpur district of Bihar on July 12, 1996. He was a sharp shooter of Ranvir Sena.
