The first Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh were marred by violence unleashed by Maoist guerrillas in four districts, forcing a re-poll in 35 booths.

Maoist guerrillas marred polling at the 35 booths in four districts of Dantewada, Bastar, Rajnandgaon and Kanker.

Electronic voting machines were looted from 26 polling stations in Dantewada, three in Bastar, two in Rajnandgaon and four in Kanker.

Polling in other parts of the state was peaceful and 60 per cent of the 13.5 million electorate cast their votes.
