THE RASHTRIYA Ekta Andolan (REA) has decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court and launch a nation-wide agitation against caste-based reservation system.

REA convener Om Prakash made this statement at a press conference here on Tuesday. According to Om Prakash, the reservation should be based on economic status and not on social distinction. He said that caste- based reservation violates the ‘Right to Equality’ as written in the Constitution.
The reservation caused a great harm to the people belonging to general category. He further said that reservation was an intrinsic desire of a few to control many and was enjoyed by a few privileged ones who wished to enjoy the privilege despite being economically sound and socially developed.
The masses, especially in rural areas, continued to experience deprivation and consistent denial of opportunities. This had hampered the development of the country. He said that REA would file a petition in the Supreme Court against the reservation policy and launch a nation-wide agitation against it.
Poster and bills would be pasted everywhere in the city to raise awareness among the citizens.
Meanwhile, anti-reservationists opposing OBC reservations met Priyanka Gandhi against the proposed 27 per cent reservation in higher education. A delegation of students led by student leaders Vijay Dwivedi and Pradeep Narayan Dwivedi met Priyanka and said such a move would be detrimental to quality of education in institutions of higher education. They urged her to take up the issue at the national forum.
