"It is a victory of nationalist forces. The Gujarat electorate have given a message to both Congress and the BJP and they should read the writing on the wall," RSS Joint Spokesman Ram Madhav told PTI.

Even the BJP, he said, should keep in mind the "upsurge of nationalist feelings" in the country while drawing its future course of action.

Madhav expressed hope that verdict would change the direction of national politics.

Describing the Gujarat results as a "victory for Hindutva', VHP senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told PTI on phone from Mumbai, "It is high time the so-called secularists realise the strength of Hindus and rectify their political line."

Bajrang Dal National Convener Prakash Sharma termed the victory as a "slap on the face of pseudo-secularists."

"Even the Supreme Court had described Hindutva as the soul and lifeline of the country. Nobody neglecting this can survive in Indian politics. The results would change the whole direction of Indian politics," he said.

Asked about his expectations from the new BJP regime, Sharma said, "We only want them to protect Hindu self-respect and avoid unnecessary appeasement of minorities."
