The police station officers held talks with the members of both the communities and cautioned them to beware of rumours.
RED ALERT was sounded in the temple town of Varanasi soon after the incident of bomb blasts at Jama Masjid in New Delhi on Friday evening. The district administration has deployed jawans of paramilitary force in localities with mixed population in Varanasi district. The police station officers held talks with the members of both the communities and cautioned them to beware of rumours.The senior police officials directed the police station officers and circle officers to keep vigil in their respective areas. SP (City) Anant Deo informed that 16 companies of PAC, 6 companies of CRPF and 4 companies of RAF had been deployed in the areas with mixed population.

The senior police officials also took stock of the situation in the sensitive Gyanwapi complex and reviewed security arrangements at other religious places.
The jawans of paramilitary force also patrolled sensitive areas such as Madanpura, Reori Talab, Jaitpura, Bari Bazar and Dalmandi . Security arrangements were also enhanced at Cantonment Railway Station, bus station and overcrowded areas like prominent ghats along the Ganga. Suspicious people were also checked by the police personnel in sensitive areas. Local intelligence units also swung into action and kept vigil on the suspicious persons. District magistrate Rajeev Agrawal directed the additional district magistrates to patrol along with COs in sensitive places. The police also conducted checking of hotels and restaurants till late night.It may be mentioned that the city witnessed twin bomb blasts at Cantonment railway station and Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi on March 7, which claimed 16 lives. and left more than 100 critically injured. A pressure cooker bomb had also been found at the busy Dashashwamedh route in Varanasi on that day.
