"Five students of IIT and five from Kanpur University and other technical institutions have started an indefinite relay fast from midnight," Youth For Equality spokesman Chandra Shekhar said.

The IIT research student said they will be replaced by another batch from midnight.

He also protested police action on protestors in Benaras Hindu University.

Shekhar said if the government tried to stop their agitation, students would "take to the streets".
