Removal of garbage from city areas begins
FINALLY, THE work of removing garbage from Jajmau and south city began today with the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) resuming supply of diesel to Jajmau and Fazalganj rubbish dumps. On Friday last, 29 vehicles at the Fazalganj rubbish dump and 13 at Jajmau remained stranded due to non-availability of diesel. The two petrol pumps supplying diesel had refused supply to the KMC due to non-payment of Rs 6 crore.
KMC chief intervenes, arranges diesel
FINALLY, THE work of removing garbage from Jajmau and south city began today with the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) resuming supply of diesel to Jajmau and Fazalganj rubbish dumps.
On Friday last, 29 vehicles at the Fazalganj rubbish dump and 13 at Jajmau remained stranded due to non-availability of diesel. The two petrol pumps supplying diesel had refused supply to the KMC due to non-payment of Rs 6 crore. The immediate fallout of the crisis was heaps of garbage lying at Jajmau and southern parts of the city.
A petrol pump supplied diesel to the KMC on the assurance of municipal commissioner Badal Chatterjee.
To cope with the adverse situation, the KMC has decided to remove garbage from Jajmau and Fazalganj till late in the evening. The decision had been taken in view of the menace of dengue and chikungunya. The health department of the KMC swung into action to ensure proper disposal of garbage from city roads.
KMC catches stray pigs
Kanpur Minicipal Corporation (KMC) men today caught 35 stray pigs during a drive, here on Monday.
The stray pigs were nabbed from areas adjoining the Hallet Hospital and the Medical College. Drive in-charge P K Tripathi informed that 35 stray pigs were caught during the drive and no untoward incident was reported.
A large contingent of police force was also present during the drive. All the pigs have been sent to Kanzi house and would later be disposed off.
It may be pointed out that during the last drive, the KMC squad faced threats and one Roomi Kathik manhandled its members.
