The Allahabad High Court has directed the Allahabad Nagar Ayukta, officials of Allahabad Nagar Nigam and health officers to remove garbage from the roads of the city and file their affidavit in this respect before the next date of hearing on September 11,2006. The court was hearing a public interest litigation. Besides, the court also directed the Allahabad Nagar Nigam and the Public Works Department to submit a report regarding the steps taken to remove encroachments from Ambedkar Crossing to the All Saints? Cathedral.

Besides, the court also directed the Allahabad Nagar Nigam and the Public Works Department to submit a report regarding the steps taken to remove encroachments from Ambedkar Crossing to the All Saints’ Cathedral.
The court directed the Chief Standing Counsel to take up the matter with the Lucknow authorities and ensure that funds are released forthwith in order to enable the PWD and Nagar Nigam to remove the encroachments and construct the road from Ambedkar crossing to the Cathedral.
This order was passed by a Division Bench, comprising Justice AK Yog and Justice RK Rastogi, on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Anand Mohan, a social activist of Allahabad.
Besides, the court also directed the Allahabad district magistrate to ensure allocation of funds for installation of a sewage treatment plant on the Rasoolabad drain, wherefrom filth and sewage of the city is being drained into the Ganga.
The court directed the Allahabad district magistrate to submit the progress report in this respect on the next date of hearing.
Regarding the market of Indira Bhawan and Civil Lines, the court directed the Allahabad Development Authority to restore the basement parking by providing ramp for vehicles being parked in the basement and to report on September 11, 2006.
In addition to it, the court directed the Allahabad district magistrate and UPSRTC chairperson to follow up proposal of city transport service operated through CNG buses.
Regarding the maintenance of parks in the city of Allahabad, the court said the Nagar Nigam and the ADA were required under the court’s order to frame Model Rules for maintenance of parks.
Therefore, the court directed them to inform the court with regard to the compliance of this order on the next date .
This PIL has been filed with a request to the court to direct the authorities concerned to remove the encroachments in any form from Allahabad city.
