The charity now in its 11th year, has helped 4,000 people to volunteer to help in vitally important projects in 27 countries. Stephen and Jill will spend three months working, followed by several weeks touring East Asia. Stephen said, "We'll be working with street kids, including going out on to the streets with them."

He said he enjoyed his police work on the beat and had built up close working links with several schools. He remains a governor at Nortonthorpe Hall School in Scissett and also works for Shelley Village Community Association. Stephen said, "I will miss the people more than anything, the people I have worked with and the public."
