The CRPF caught two youths identified as Prakash Nayak and Gopal Nayak at Baburia under Sarangagada police station while they were passing through a road.

After questioning the two, the securitymen allegedly beat them up inflicting injury, the protesters alleged.

As soon as the news of the alleged assault spread, a large number of people, including women gathered at the spot.

Demanding immediate action against the erring personnel and registration of a complaint with the police, the crowd staged a road blockade affecting movement of traffic to different places in the district including Baliguda, Raikia, Tikabali and G Udayagiri, police said.

Shops and business establishments in the locality were closed after the incident as the slogan shouting mob put up road blockade by burning tyres and felling trees.

The protesters also alleged that the police had not accepted their complaint against the CRPF personnel.

Senior officials including the local tehsildar have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, they added.
