The agitated employees were demanding merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with their basic salaries similar to the state employees, extension of retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, immediate appointment of the dependent of deceased employees and regularisation of daily wagers.

Regional president of the UP Roadways Employees’ Union, Awdhesh Pandey, strongly criticised the apathetic attitude of the State government and the corporation towards the employees. He said roadways employees were committed to their work but the reluctant attitude of the corporation was creating a sense of frustration among the employees.

Regional secretary of the union, SK Srivastava and State vice-president of the union Ramashankar Singh also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, in Gorakhpur members of the UP Roadway Employees’ Union staged a dharna at the regional manager roadways office and handed over an 18-point charter of demands.

The charter was to be forwarded to managing director of the UP State Roadways Transport Corporation. The employees have demanded merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with their basic salaries and two-year extension in their service period.

Regional secretary of the union Mohd Waris blamed the MD and other senior officials for ignoring the demands. He claimed productive employees had brought the corporation into profit. However, the profit earned was squandered away by senior officials of the department.
