The victim suspects the involvement of his previous business partner behind the incident.
The owner of the jewellery shop, Shanu Gupta, told the police that around 2.30pm three unidentified men in the age-group of 25-30 years entered his shop. Gupta said he and a customer were taken hostage and bundled inside a small room in the shop.
“They were armed with knives and a country-made weapon. They pushed us inside a room and fled with gold and silver jewellery and cash. They spent 15-20 minutes in the shop and fled,” he said.
Gupta said he did not resist the attempt as his cousin Amit Gupta, also a jeweller, was killed during a similar robbery incident in the Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad in 2008.
In his complaint, Gupta has allegedly named his previous business partner for the robbery incident.
“We are probing the incident. The loss is yet to be ascertained. Teams have also been formed to trace the culprits,” said SSP Prashant Kumar.
