Roche mulls tie-up with Indian firms

Roche is exploring the possibility of collaboration with Indian biotech companies for contract research and manufacturing.

Swiss pharma major Roche Group is exploring the possibility of collaboration with Indian biotech companies for contract research and manufacturing, Managing Director of Roche Scientific company (India), GL Telang said on Tuesday.

An international team is coming to India shortly to assess the requirement for the collaboration and "the most important thing we will be emphasising on is the Data Exclusivity and Data Protection," Telang told reporters during the launch of lung cancer drug `Tarceva'.

The team will assess various factors that are pre-requisite of Roche to have collaboration, including the quality of labs, manufacturing units.

The Indian biotech companies in Roche list include Biocon, Shanta Biotech and Bhart Biotech, Telang added.
