Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi sped to victory at MotoGP's Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday, edging Loris Capirossi in a hard-fought race.

Rossi, riding a Yamaha, won in 43 minutes, 7.829 seconds, ahead of fellow Italian Capirossi on a Ducati and Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, who was injured during a fall in practice Friday. Current MotoGP standings leader Nicky Hayden of the United States was fourth on a Honda.
Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo edged Andrea Dovizioso of Italy to win the 250cc race Sunday at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Lorenzo, who is in a two-way fight with Dovizioso for the world championship crown, completed the 20-lap race with a time of 43 minutes, 15.499 seconds on an Aprilia. Doviziso finished with 43:20.927, while Alex de Angelis of San Marino came in third with 43:25.724.
Lorenzo remains on top in the world standings with 224 points, while Dovizioso has 212 points.
In the 125cc race, Spain's Alvaro Bautista finished in 26:52.154 on an Aprilia for his second straight victory after last month's Czech Grand Prix. KTM's Mika Kallio of Finland was second with 26:55.731, followed by Spaniard Hector Faubel with 27:02.058 on an Aprilia.
Bautista has a leading 255 points in the world standings. Kallio is second with 181 points.
