The working committee termed unfortunate the present atmosphere of fear, insecurity and mutual distrust. The committee condemned strongly causes due to which the vice-chancellor Prof RG Harshe was feeling insecure and unprotected.

The committee said anti-social elements mentioned by the V-C must be identified and action taken against them. The AUTA working committee also demanded adequate security cover for all sections of the varsity, for the V-C and the girls students.

The committee reiterated its firm commitment to keep the glorious traditions and democratic values of the “great university” and cautioned that insecurity and fear psychosis may be the result of a cleverly planned move of elements with vested interests. The working committee said it was difficult to rule out completely possibility the present atmosphere of insecurity may be a prelude to the repetition of the situation several years ago.

Concern was aired also about Press notes being traded by the AU and police authorities, creating an atmosphere of distrust. The members opined that in order to avoid controversies it would be proper that only those authorised by the university issued Press notes based on facts.

The AUTA working committee stressed the sensitive issue of examination and suggested that to reassure public at large about the resolve of the university to maintain highest levels of confidentiality and sanctity of the examinations, a high-level judicial probe or investigation by CBI was imperative, so that facts came to the fore.

At the end of the meet, the working committee issued fervent appeal to all sections of the university to join heads in creating a healthy and peaceful academic environment on the campus.
