Rs 120 cr for SS Hospital facelift

THE SIR Sunderlal Hospital of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will get Rs 120 crore for upgradation of patients’ amenities.

A seven-member delegation of Union Government conducted a two-day survey of patients’ amenities at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital on Monday and Tuesday. The delegation also visited Foundation Place of BHU on Tuesday, where a 500-bed super specialty hospital is proposed.

A sum of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned under Prime Minister Health Service Scheme, whereas the remaining Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned by Union Human Resource Development Ministry.

Out of Rs 100 core, 55 crore has been sanctioned for upgradation of building, and remaining Rs 45 crore has been sanctioned for purchase of equipments.

Principal and Medical Superintendent of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital (New Delhi), Prof. GK Sharma led the delegation and held discussions with BHU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Panjab Singh, IMS Director Prof Gajendra Singh and Medical Superintendent of Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Prof Saroj Churamani Gopal during its two-day visit.

Prof Churamani Gopal, Medical Superintendent of SS Hospital said Rs 55 crore would be spent for upgradation of building whereas Rs 45 crore had been sanctioned for equipment’.

The experts visited Out Patients Ward (OPD) of SS Hospital and all the departments of Institute of Medical Sciences before leaving for New Delhi today.

It may be noted the authorities of BHU had submitted a proposal of Rs. 262.06 crore for upgradation of facilities in SS Hospital to HRD Ministry. Besides, a proposal of Rs 448.17 crore for construction of a 500-bed super specialty hospital at Foundation Place of BHU has already been submitted to Union Health Ministry through HRD Ministry.
