RTO G M Pathak said that the old tempo permit holders have already purchased about 100 Maruti Omni cars and they would be on road within a fortnight. The Authority introduced contractual carriages with eight-seater 10 Omnis in October last.
As per the Supreme Court order, Omnis will replace City’s 550 tempos in a bid to relieve the City from rising air pollution. The tempos have been phased out of Indore limits and most of them are plying in rural areas like Depalpur, Hatod, Gautampura and Sanver.
Meanwhile, a press release issued here informed that the 100th Maruti Omni was purchased from local car dealer Jabalpur Motors on Friday. A function was organised to commemorate the occasion. Jabalpur Motor and Patel Motors have sold 100 contractual vans so far, the release added.
