Doiwala and Sahaspur constituencies are poised to witness big dissidence in the Congress as rebels are up in arms against the party's official nominees.
Nearly 300 local party workers and leaders gathered at the residence of senior party leader Shankar Chand Ramola and condemned the party's decision to field a common candidate of their own from here. Those who joined the meeting included more than eight village panchayat pradhans, district panchayat members and senior party leaders belonging to the minority community.
Senior leader and ticket contender from Sahaspur Gulzar, district Congress president Din Mohammed and Zusuf Ali and their supporters resolved to field a common independent candidate from Sahaspur. Congress leader Lakshmi Aggarwal (who has already filed nomination as independent candidate from Sahaspur) and her husband PK Aggarwal alsopledged support to rebels.
Earlier in the day, several supporters of Doiwala Congress leader SP Singh protested at the party office and shouted slogans against union minister Harish Rawat, alleging injustice to local leaders.
