Rumours rob all humour!

RUMOUR MILLS worked overtime throughout Tuesday. Right from reports of rigging to massive bloodshed, firing etc the rumours kept the media persons on their toes throughout the day. From Tilak Nagar wards? Karbala Malka Jahan polling booth someone called up media persons saying that election agents of various political parties had been turned out of the booth.

Right from reports of rigging to massive bloodshed, firing etc the rumours kept the media persons on their toes throughout the day. From Tilak Nagar wards’ Karbala Malka Jahan polling booth someone called up media persons saying that election agents of various political parties had been turned out of the booth.

When media persons reached there they discovered that polling was going on smoothly. Here, in order to facilitate polling, the cops had merely suggested that the election agents sit at the entry point rather than inside the booth to avoid confusion.

Again, some mischief mongers spread rumours that violence had broken out at the Polytechnic College booth at Krishnanagar. Again, the information turned out to be false.

A little while later similar reports were received from Gauribazaar in Sarojininagar. Here, it was alleged that owing to massive rigging at a primary school polling booth, two groups fought a pitched battle with each other. Again, the media persons rushed there only to discover that nothing untoward had happened.

From Motinagar’s Agarwal College centre, Rastogi College at Chowk and various other places in the city rumours kept on coming. The cops had a tough time convincing the media persons that all was well. “Everytime the media persons receive some news they ring us up to cross check facts. When we tell them that all is well they disbelieve us and decide to visit the place for themselves. Many entered into an altercation thinking that we were trying to mislead them,” said a SI.
