Batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday surpassed legendary Pakistani batsman Javed Miandad's record of 8,832 runs to become the fifth-highest scorer in Test cricket.
Tendulkar achieved the milestone when he hit a straight drive off New Zealand bowler Ian Butler on the fourth day of the second cricket Test here to accumulate seven runs needed to surpass the earlier record.
This was 30-year-old Tendulkar's 107th Test.
The top four Test run scorers stand in the following order -- Allan Border (Aus; 11,174 in 156 Tests), Steve Waugh (Aus; 10,660 in 164 Tests), Sunil Gavaskar (Ind; 10,122 in 125 Tests), Graham Gooch (Eng; 8,900 in 118 Tests).
Tendulkar, the highest run-getter in one-dayers with 12,219 runs, is also three centuries short of equalling Gavaskar's world record of 34.
