Sachin is batting against tennis balls: Leipus

The Indian team physio issued a statement stating that Sachin's participation in the second Test is 'unlikely' but he was not out of the remainder of the series.

Andrew Leipus issued a statement in which he said Tendulkar's participation in the second Test looked 'unlikely' but he was not out of the remainder of the series.

A synopsis of what he said:
-He must be (a) comfortable, in that his symptoms should be stiffness and not pain, and (b) he must have full function of the elbow/wrist, meaning that he is not limited in his shot selection.

-Basic aim of rehabilitation is to gradually load healthy tissue around the injured area ... Presently his problem is in weakness of grip strength more than actual elbow/forearm discomfort.

-A steroid injection given prior to the first Test has allowed us to accelerate his strengthening programme. He is thus back in the gym specifically training his upper body. He is back in the nets albeit with a light bat and against tennis ball throw-downs only.

- As the forearm strengthens, then we will progressively increase the weight of his bat. Despite media reports, the Medical Specialists feel that the weight of his bat was never an issue.
