SAF scholarships distributed among UPRTOU students

UTTAR PRADESH Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) vice-chancellor Prof Kedar Nath Singh Yadav distributed South Asian Foundation (SAF) scholarships to the select varsity students at a function held at the UPRTOU administrative building on Saturday. The students received a Rs 4,500 one-time payment as scholarship for the current academic year after final approval of the SAF headquarters.

UTTAR PRADESH Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) vice-chancellor Prof Kedar Nath Singh Yadav distributed South Asian Foundation (SAF) scholarships to the select varsity students at a function held at the UPRTOU administrative building on Saturday. The students received a Rs 4,500 one-time payment as scholarship for the current academic year after final approval of the SAF headquarters.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Yadav explained the importance of the scholarships and said that the SAF scholarships are a prestigious student aid and would help the students both financially and mentally by providing them encouragement.

Co-ordinator SAF Scholarship Committee Prof AN Dwivedi, said the scholarship has been awarded to the selected students meeting the eligibility criteria set by the SAF authorities. The eligibility for scholarship was post-graduation in professional courses excluding B Ed. The annual income of the guardian should not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh and the age of the recipient should not exceed 30 years. Applications were invited through advertisement and a merit is prepared for short listing of the students based on their academic achievements and performance in the interview conducted by the SAF authorities. The final list is sent to the SAF headquarters for the approval.

Around 57 students out of a total of 85 selected students in the academic year 2005-06 received the SAF scholarship at the function conducted by Prof Dwivedi.

Those present at the function included UPRTOU Registrar Dr Ratnakar Shukla, Prof KP Singh, Dr Arjun Tiwari, Dr HC Jaiswal, Dr Ruchi Bajpai, Prabhat Chandra Mishra and many others. Dr Bajpai proposed a vote of thanks.
