Safai staff stage dharna

The Safai Mazdoor Parishad activists took out a massive procession on the VNN premises today and raised slogans against the concerned authorities for selecting their near and dear ones against the vacancies of contract basis sweepers. At least 200 sweepers took part.
The sweepers alleged some of the candidates belonging to upper caste community were selected as contract basis sweepers. “Do you think a thakur, Gupta or Yadav would perform the work of a ‘Harijan’ (scheduled caste)?” asked president of Uttar Pradeshiya Safai Mazdoor Parishad (Varanasi), Naresh Premi.
He alleged some officials had opted for favoritism while selecting the candidates.
City Commissioner, Satya Narayan Srivastava was not available for comment.
Chief City Health Officer of VNN, Dr. MP Pandey, also a member of selection committee, denied to comment. “I cannot comment over this issue as the selection is a collective exercise,” he said.
