THE POLICE appeared to have adopted an indifferent attitude while probing the case of murderous attempt on CO Chowk Rajesh Sahni. Despite directives from DGP, Bua Singh and IG Zone, AK Gupta, the officials were least bothered to carry out even primary investigation into the case.
SSP Dr GK Goswami, on Wednesday, had claimed that a police team would be dispatched to Mumbai if details about the owner of the jeep used in the incident were not collected. He had also claimed that another police team would be sent to Kanpur to gather details about the antecedents of the five brothers involved in the case. But no police team had left for any of the places till late tonight. On the other hand, SP (West) DK Rai, who was handed over the probe into the matter, too replied in a laid-back manner when inquired about any progress in the investigation. Rai said he had so several other investigations too besides this one. He said it would take some time to retrieve details in the course of investigation.
The officials preferred to maintain silence when inquired as to why they were not quizzing those cops and politicians seen with the five accused in photographs recovered from their possession. The accused had also revealed about their proximity with an ADG rank officer and their frequent visits to the DGP headquarters.
A register recovered from the jeep too contained details of some policemen and officials of the PWD, Irrigation, UPPCL and the municipal corporations. The register also contained names of some girls. However, the five youths did not divulge any details about the girls.
