A GALAXY of renowned classical singers, musicians and dancers will perform in five-day Sankat Mochan annual music conclave which is scheduled to be organised on Sankat Mochan Temple premises in Varanasi from April 17 to 21 to mark the Hanumad Jayanti festival.

Around 37 artistes such as Pt Jasraj, Pt Birju Maharaj, Sunand Patnayak, Ronu Majumdar, Rajan- Sajan Mishra and Kankana Banerjee etc will enthrall the audience on different days during the music conclave.
Giving this information to mediapersons here on Friday, chief priest of Sankat Mochant Temple, Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra said that the musical programme would start at 7.30 pm and continue till the wee hours daily.
He informed that in view of the recent bomb blasts at Sankat Mochan temple premises on March 7, apart from the security of the district administration, the temple administration would deploy volunteers in plainclothes to keep a strict vigil on the activities of the audience.
Prof. Mishra informed that eight performances of classical music, dance and song would be organised on the first day on April 17.
Some prominent artistes who will perform on the first day include Romi Chakravarti (vocal), Rupali Ganguli and Gaurav Ganguli (Kathak), K V Satyanarayan (Kuchipudi) and Ronu Majumdar of Mumbai (flute).
The second day of the music conclave would be the main attraction for classical music lovers because on that day, stalwarts of classical music including Pt Jasraj from Mumbai (vocal), Pt Birju Maharaj and his daughter Mamta Maharaj from Mumbai (Kathak), Rajan-Sajan Mishra from Delhi (vocal), Raghupati Hegde from Bangalore (vocal) and Rajesh Nirvan from Bangalore (flute) would stage their performances.
On April 19, Swati Modi Tiwari of Jabalpur (Kathak), Sadhwi Sunanda Patnayak of Kolkatta (vocal), Pt Vishwajeet Chaudhary of Delhi (sarod), Sushila Mehta of Bangalore (vocal), Dr Yella V Rao and his accompanies of Hyderabad, (talvadya), Girish Jee of Allahabad (vocal) and Pt Rajeshwar Acharya of Varanasi (vocal) will enthrall the audience with their performances.
Prominent artistes who will stage their performances on April 20 are Apurva of Hydrabad (Kathak), Ipsita Behura (of Delhi Odissi), Pt Askaran Sharma of Mumbai (vocal), Ramkumar Mishra of Varanasi (tabla), Pt Madhup Mudgal of Delhi (vocal), Pt. Satish Vyas of Mumbai (santoor), Kalpana Jorkar of Pune (vocal) and Gaurav Majumdar of Delhi (sitar).
On the last day of the music conclave on April 21, Mumtaz Husain of Varanasi (shehnai), Ratikant Mahapatra of Bhubaneshwar (Odissi), Pt Surendra Singh of Delhi (vocal), Abhay Rustam Sapori of Delhi (santoor), Kankana Banerjee of Mumbai (vocal), Pt Devi Prasad Chatterjee of Kolkata (sitar) and Pt Ulhas Kasalkar of Kolkata (vocal) will enthrall the audience with their recitals.
