Police officials said the incident happened near Dayalpur Chowk under Teghra police station and the teacher has been identified as one Dharamshila Devi.

"She was a teacher at a primary school located at Pirauli village. She was on her way to the school when two motorcycle-borne criminals intercepted her, fired indiscriminately and then escaped," said Teghra Station House Officer (SHO) Amarnath Jha.

The SHO said that the teacher died on the spot and the police is now trying to ascertain the reasons behind the murder.

"A manhunt has been launched to nab the persons involved in the murder. The dead body has been sent for postmortem," added the SHO.
