Four more bodies were recovered on Tuesday from Choglamsar village, the worst affected area, taking the toll to 170.

Several foreign tourists were evacuated on Wednesday from Lamayuru, Biamah, Pang, Rumtse and Marakha valley areas. On Tuesday, around 150 tourists were rescued.

Five foreigners — two Frenchmen, a Spaniard, an Italian and a Romanian — are feared dead. Officials believe many tourists are still stranded in remote areas.

Efforts are on to restore road communication to affected areas as early as possible. Friday’s floods swept away roads, houses, bridges and power cables in many parts of the district.
