Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have averted a major tragedy by detecting and defusing two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs), official sources said in Jammu on Tuesday.
The security apprehended two persons, including a terrorist of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, in separate incidents in Doda district during last 24 hours.
Security forces during search operations detected a 15-kg IED, fitted in a ghee container in a stream in Bhaderwah Tehsil of Doda district.
Experts were called to the site and they destroyed the IED on the spot.
Another 18-kg IED, filled with RDX and metal pieces, were detected by the army during search operation on a road side at Bhindara in Doda district.
Neutralising the IEDs have averted major tragedy as they could have caused loss of life, the sources said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Rashtriya Rifles troops and police arrested one LeT terrorist, identified as Ashfaq Ahmed, from Bharat area of Doda district.
Two Chinese hand greandes, five IEDs, four detonators and 1.5 metre of wire were recovered from him.
Security forces also arrested one Irfan Bhatt from Dhar area of Doda at the instance of the LeT terrorist, they said adding that Bhatt was working as an over ground worker for the outfit.
Meanwhile, security forces during search operation in Kishtwar area of Doda district recovered two hand greandes, two AK magazines, eight blankets, two letter pads of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami outfit and one quintal of dry ration, sources said.
