Seminars, novel protests to mark Women?s Day

UN Habitat, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the State Government has jointly launched the `Water for Asian Cities’ programme in the four major cities of the State – Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. The Mahila Chetana Manch has prepared a strategy document to include gender into the mainstream of this programme.

The mayors of the four cities, corporators and municipal commissioners, officials concerned with the project, representatives of the UN Habitat and gender experts would participate in the workshop and discuss the document.

Voluntary organisation Sangini will organise overnight programmes from 8.00 pm on March 7 and conclude at 6.00 am on March 8. The programmes include screening of a movie at Sargam Talkies at 8.30 pm, cultural programmes between 2.00 am and 3.00 am on VIP Road and road writing between 4.00 am and 6.00 am at New Market, VIP Road and Tinshed.

A press release by Prarthna Mishra, secretary of the organisation said the intention of organising the programmes at odd timings is to symbolically protest various bindings on women put by society.
