On July 5 the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had decided to bring the hookah parlours under the purview of the Cigarettes and Tobacco Act, thereby banning it near public places and near schools and colleges. 59 hookah parlours were served notices for the same.
“Parents and a few Shiv Sainkis raised voice against the hookah bar as it is bad for health. They are not even complying by the rules laid by the health ministry,” said Mayor Shuba Raul who visited the place after the incident.
“We don’t intend to disobey the law. We have submitted all the required licences to the concerned police station...” said Ankit Anand, Owner of the restaurant.
Although the services at the café resumed immediately, few regular customers were apprehensive. “This is our favorite hangout. But after today, we’ll think twice before coming here”, said Disha Chitaliya (20), a college student.
