CAMPAIGNING FOR urban bodies poll has reached its peak as senior leaders of major political parties have decided to throw their weights behind party candidates.
BJP state president Keshri Nath Tripathi will address public meetings at Nishatganj, Triveni Nagar on Wednesday evening while the Congress roped in Union minister Alkhilesh Das to campaign for party’s mayoral candidate, Manzoor Ahmed. The ruling Samajwadi Party is not far behind in the race. They pushed party MP Akhilesh Yadav for the poll campaigning. Akhilesh is set to organise a ‘cycle rally’ on October 29.
On Tuesday, BJP’s mayoral candidate Dinesh Sharma visited Shankarpurva ward along with Ram Singh Lodhi. Later, he went to Mankameshawar ward with local leader Bhagwati Prasad Shukla and party candidate Ranjit Yadav for the door-to-door canvassing. Sharma also campaigned in Amausi, Scooter India, Dandaiyya Bazar, JC Bose ward. The BJP workers also took out a procession in support of Sharma from Ramadhin Singh Inter College to Hazratganj. Hundreds of party workers participated in the procession.
Congress candidate Manzoor Ahmed also campaigned in the city with Akhilesh Das in his Vikas Rath. He covered Hazratganj, Parivartan Chowk , Lucknow University, Mahanagar, Vivekananda Puri, Aliganj, Mankameshwar, Lohia Nagar, Daliganj and Gomti Nagar. The Congress candidates in various wards accompanied him during his campaign .
Meanwhile, the SP mayoral candidate participated in a meeting organised by the Vaishya Samaj in Mahanagar. She visited Ashiana, Alambagh, Chinhat, Rajajipuram, and Kanpur road.
She was accompanied by senior leaders Bhagwati Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Virendra Bhatia.
