State government has amended its earlier GO dated June 20, 2005 and made provisions to shift senior specialist doctors in Level-II (male) category from district hospitals to the community health centres (CHCs). Allahabad district alone has over 40 senior specialist doctors who may soon be transferred to the peripheral health centres.

During the PMS cadre review about 668 senior specialist posts in the pay scale Rs 10,000-15,200 were identified for providing their services at the district hospitals in the State. The doctors in the non-specialist categories were supposed to get posted at the CHCs and PHCs. However in the PMS Service Rule-2004 the same posts were identified for the CHCs due to serious crisis of experienced and qualified doctors in the rural areas.

But with high level political connections the doctors falling in this category reportedly managed to get plum postings at the district hospitals and the rural posting were left for the plain MBBS doctors.

But as the High Court pulled up the government for poor health services in rural areas the government amended its earlier GO and decided to shift senior specialists to the rural health centres. Principal Secretary (health) UP Government, Neeta Choudhary, in a letter dated January 24, has stated that the 668 posts of senior specialists identified in the district hospitals will now be considered for the community health centres.

District Health Department sources informed that Allahabad district alone has about 40 to 45 senior specialists who are posted at district hospitals and will be very soon shifted to the CHCs.
