Sensex crosses 12,000 mark again

The heavy gains in Sensex were extended in the first five minutes of trading as it gained 147.72 points at 12,086.25.

The benchmark index again crossed 12,000 points just at the start of the trading on Thursday on the Bombay Stock Exchange on the back of massive buying by foreign as well as domestic funds in blue-chip stocks.

The heavy gains in Sensex were extended in the first five minutes of trading as it gained 147.72 points at 12,086.25.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) had gained about 292 points on Wednesday.

Similarly, the Nifty index on the wide-based National Stock Exchange shot up by 43.20 points at 3,598.95.

Trend setters, Reliance Industries stocks continued their upward march largely in anticipation of strong quarterly results to be announced later on Thursday and quoted Rs 16.95 higher at Rs 994.80.

Other major gainers were BHEL, Larsen and Toubro, Bajaj Auto, Tata Consultancy, Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, HDFC Ltd, State Bank of India, Satyam Computer and Maruti Udyog.

However, ONGC and Infosys Technologies met with some selling and traded in negative zone.
