In choppy trade, BSE Sensex wiped off initial gains and ended down by 219 points on Wednesday due to a rush of selling by funds.
The Sensex, which had climbed 180 points initially, tumbled by over 250 points before winding up lower by 219.44 points at 10,007.34.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty dropped by 60.90 points at 2932.75.
During the day, it witnessed a low of 2919.95 and a high of 3045.35 points.
