September 6, 2003: Jan Shatabdi derails in Uttar Pradesh; three people killed

At least three coaches of Dehradun-New Delhi Jan Shatabdi derailed near Deoband early today, killing three and injuring several others. Rescue and relief operations have begun with teams of doctors reaching the site from Saharanpur and Delhi, the sources said. Train movement on the section has been affected due to the mishap.

At least three coaches of the New Delhi-bound Jan Shatabadi Express derailed early Saturday, killing three and injuring several others, Northern Railways sources said.

The accident happened near Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, while the train was on its way from Uttaranchal's capital Dehradun to New Delhi.

The train derailed at around 8.20 am. The reasons behind the derailment are not known.

Rescue and relief operations have begun with teams of doctors reaching the site from Saharanpur and Delhi, the sources said.

Train movement on the section has been affected due to the mishap.
