Seven prisoners escape from Shillong jail

Seven prisoners on Sunday fled from Shillong District jail, police sources said. The seven were convicted in cases related to rape, murder and under Arms Act.

Police said they also pilfered one weapon belonging to the jail authorities. At around 7 am, the seven prisoners were taken out of their cell for collecting firewood as usual but they escaped after overpowering the guards, the sources added.
