Seventeen Indians deported from Maldives

The persons, who were engaged in polishing work, said they had got into a scuffle in Maldives when one of their partners was beaten up.

Seventeen Indians deported from Maldives after a scuffle with local employees at their workplace there, arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday evening.

The persons, who were engaged in polishing and painting work on an island there, told reporters at the airport here that they got into a scuffle with Maldivians when one of them "beat" up their colleague.

Official sources here said it was a dispute over working hours. Eight of the 17 persons who arrived here are Keralites and the rest are from Tamil Nadu, the sources said.

The deported persons reached here by an Indian Airlines flight in the evening.
