Several feared killed in Jammu bus mishap

The bus was on its way from Paddar to Jammu when it skidded off the road and fell into the river at Shashoo.

At least two people were killed and eight rescued from a passenger bus that skidded off the Kishtwar-Paddar road in Doda district and plunged into the Chenab River on Wednesday morning.

However, fate of the remaining people in the bus, believed to have been carrying over 70 passengers at the time of the accident, was not yet known, police said adding that a helicopter has been rushed from Jammu to Kishtwar for rescue operation.

Police and security forces have been able to extricate two bodies, four of the injured from the bus and another four from the river at Shashoo, they said.

Meanwhile, army has rushed its personnel to the accident site for carrying out rescue operations, defence sources said.
