Career diplomat Shahid Malik will take charge as Pakistan's new high commissioner to India.
He succeeds Aziz Ahmed Khan, whose term ended on Wednesday after 29 months during which he is perceived as having done well in promoting confidence-building measures between the two countries.
His term witnessed a remarkable thaw in bilateral relations.
A foreign office statement said Khan played an active role in the peace process between India and Pakistan, Online news agency said.
