Maria Sharapova reached the last 16 at the French Open on Friday by defeating Alicia Molik of Australia 6-0, 7-5.

The Russian fourth seed will next play compatriot Dinara Safina for a place in the quarterfinals. Safina came through against Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia winning 6-3, 6-4.
