Shiv Sainiks to oppose ?Water?

Deepa Mehta?s controversial movie, ?Water?, has once again become the target of self-styled cultural cops. Activists of the Shiv Sena under the leadership of divisional chief, Ajay Chaubey, collected the CDs of ?Water? movie, available in the market and damaged it at Luxa area on Tuesday.

Activists of the Shiv Sena under the leadership of divisional chief, Ajay Chaubey, collected the CDs of ‘Water’ movie, available in the market and damaged it at Luxa area on Tuesday.

The leaders were of the view that this movie has been prepared with an objective to ruin the prosperous and harmonious culture of Varanasi.

The Shiv Sanik leaders said that they would oppose the screening of this movie at any theater in Varanasi.

Prominent among those who participated in demonstration included Varun Singh, Om Prakash Verma, Santosh Seth, Ramesh Vadhavan, Gopal Gupta, Rajesh Seth, Anshu Kesari and Ajay Singh.

The shooting team of ‘Water’ had already faced stiff opposition from pro-Hindu activists in Varanasi when the crew was shooting the movie in Varanasi in January 2000.
