Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik divorced Ayesha Siddiqui according to Islamic law. Now, there is no hurdle in his marrying tennis star Sania Mirza.

“Justice has been done. All my daughter wanted was a divorce, not money,” said Farisa Siddiqui, Ayesha’s mother. “I know it is odd for a mother to say she is happy her daughter has got a divorce, but I am.”

It took 15 mediators 24 hours of hectic negotiations to reach an agreement. They said the Siddiquis have withdrawn all police complaints against Shoaib.

No one from the Mirza or Malik homes commented. “This is because both parties have asked the mediators to be spokespersons,” said Zahid Qureshi, who was part of the negotiations.

Behind the gates of the Mirza home, preparations for the April 15 wedding were on in full swing. About 800 invitations have already been sent to Hyderabad society. All day, relatives and friends kept pouring in and out of the household.
