Shutdown against terror hits normal life in Jammu

A general strike called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a few traders organisations against the twin terror strikes - at a police station in Kathua and an army camp in Samba Thursday - hit normal life in Jammu today.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) too supported the shutdown. Shops, public transport and businesses remained shut in the city though government offices, banks and post offices functioned normally.

Authorities Thursday evening said that all educational institutions would remain closed in Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur districts. All examinations scheduled in these areas Friday have been postponed.

Private transport vehicles, however, plied normally on city roads, barring a few three-wheelers in some areas of the city.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the unified headquarters meeting Friday in Jammu to review the overall security situation in the state in the aftermath of the terror strikes.
