Sibal to be honoured by New York-based institute

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal will be honoured by New York-based Institute of International Education (IIE) for supporting global collaboration in education.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal will be honoured by New York-based Institute of International Education (IIE) for supporting global collaboration in education.

Sibal will be honoured with Stephen P Duggan award for Mutual Understanding, the highest honour of the institute, a release issued by the HRD Ministry said.

In a letter, Allan E Goodman, CEO of the IIE, has said this honour is given to Sibal for his "resolute support of global collaboration in education". The award will be presented to Sibal at the 2010 International Awards Gala to be held in September in New York City.

The Stephen P Duggan Award for Mutual Understanding is presented to distinguished world leaders in the fields of government, education and diplomacy. The award was established by IIE in 1990.

Among the recipients of the Award are former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former US Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former President of France Valery Giscard D' Estaing and former President of Ireland Mary Robinson.
