At the valedictory session of 'PITEX-09', a trade exposition in Amritsar, Sidhu said he would approach the Centre and the state to arrange for at least Rs five crore for a world-class convention centre.

"Such a centre would give a fillip to the industry of Amritsar. The idea is to enhance the micro and small industry of the region," said Sidhu. The MP said industries could generate employment as land holdings decreased.

Earlier on December 2, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on December 3, during their respective visits to the exposition had also assured to do the needful for the convention centre.

PHD Chamber Punjab Committee co-chairman R S Sachdeva, informed that trade inquiries of more than Rs 200 crore have been reported at the expo.
